21 antique granite sculptures of lions in the reception area welcome the visitors of Surya Samudra Beach Resort. A granite pathway similar to the courtyard of Kerala temples is laid out, which leads to a pair of carved granite pillars. From there, steps lead towards houses. Each house faces the sea secluded from the other by rich foliage. The land around is terraced to prevent erosion of the soil and cottages are placed at different levels.
Individual cottages have a granite-topped table and stools. Guests sit and watch the waves lash against the cliff. Tharavad (traditional Kerala houses) are reassembled here. The rooms are pleasantly decorated and are equipped with modern amenities. Bathroom-cum-toilets or 'bath gardens' are open air, surrounded by the slopes. Each house has an open-air cafeteria.
